Newcastle United have been linked with Watford winger, Ismaila Sarr.
Sarr, 24, is one of the brighter talents in the attacking third and he could leave Watford this summer, after spending three seasons with the hornets. Sarr was bought by Watford back in 2019 for a club-record fee of £30 million from Rennes and was tied down to a contract that runs until the summer of 2024.
Now, as per a report from The Sun, Newcastle United are looking at Sarr to bolster their attack. Eddie Howe is in-charge of the new project for the Magpies but he has the finances to back him up. Sarr is viewed as a low-cost effective option.
Sarr has managed to score five goals in a misfiring Watford attack. It is clear that he will flourish in an attacking system.
The source understands that the Magpies will have to pay more than Watford paid for Sarr back in 2019. But, the sum is unlikely to exceed £35 million, especially if Watford get relegated.
An exciting option for Newcastle United?
Sarr, no doubt, has the quality to succeed in the Premier League. Newcastle are currently in the process of building a new team and Sarr could land himself an exciting role in the early stages of the project.
Despite their riches, Newcastle can be certain that the ‘superstars’ of the game will not come to St. James’ Park. At least not so early.
Sarr is a low-cost effective option. He has scored five goals this season and in a proper system, he can flourish and perhaps breach the 10-goal mark. His pace, strength, and stability make him deadly on the break. In an attacking, possession-based system, Sarr can make those deadly runs behind the opposition backline.
The Senegal winger is not a traditional winger. Standing tall at 1.85 meters, Sarr does not cut in like a traditional winger. He instead uses his long strides and 1v1 skills to open a diagonal angle at the goal. In other words, he is a direct threat to the opposition’s goal more often than not. This is of course, in addition to him delivering those crosses from the byline.
Sarr also has an excellent first touch which may be mistaken for poor control. He is good in tight spaces and draws his opponents before leaving them in the dust.
Ismaila Sarr will be an excellent addition to Eddie Howe’s plans and will be inclined to join Newcastle United if Watford do stand relegated at the end of the season.
