Newcastle United are among three Premier League clubs interested in signing Olympiacos starlet Aguibou Camara.

A youth product of LOSC Lille academy, Aguibou Camara, 20, left the Ligue 1 club to join Olympiacos earlier this summer. He has quickly established himself a regular under Pedro Martins, managing 17 appearances across all competitions, netting five goals and registering two assists in the process.

He has put in a series of impressive displays in the Greek Superleague and Europe, thereby attracting interest from a host of clubs ahead of the winter transfer window.

According to The Sun, Newcastle United have already made contact with Aguibou Camara’s agent. The likes of Liverpool, Leicester City, Villarreal, Valencia, AS Monaco and Bologna are also keeping tabs on the Guinean international, who is valued at around £20million, the report adds.

Newcastle United are reeling at the bottom of the Premier League table, winless and without a clean sheet after 14 games. Newly-appointed manager Eddie Howe, who replaced the sacked Steve Bruce earlier this month, faces an uphill task of maintaining the club’s top-flight status and the January transfer window would present him with an opportunity to bring in some new players.

Aguibou Camara to Newcastle United—A good move for Eddie Howe?

With the Magpies in a relegation battle, it is absolutely vital for the new owners to back Eddie Howe to the hilt in the upcoming transfer window. Given the club’s position at the moment, a couple of quality additions are at least expected to walk in through the front door of St James’ Park.

A central defender has to be a priority to stem the flow of goals. In addition, Newcastle could do well with a dynamic central midfield player who’ll instantly add some spark and energy to their lacklustre midfield unit. In that regard, Olympiacos’ Aguibou Camara could be ideal for the Toon Army.

Rated as one of Europe’s top young talents, Camara is a creative midfielder by trade but is adept at playing on either flank or in a deeper role. The 20-year-old has showcased at Olympiacos that he certainly has the ability to add creativity from advanced positions, whilst being robust and meticulous off the ball.

The Guinean international has impressed with his performances in Greece, and with willing runners in the form of Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Joelinton in the Newcastle side Camara’s quality to pick passes in the final third will prove particularly useful. Plus, the former Lille prodigy will also add plenty of energy and tenacity to the Magpies midfield, whilst adding depth to the squad.

All in all, Camara looks like a significant upgrade on Newcastle’s existing midfield options and a potential January deal for the Olympiacos star might go a long way towards helping Howe’s side beat relegation this term.
