Manchester United are reportedly among a few top European clubs that have opened talks over a deal for River Plate starlet Julian Alvarez.

The Argentinean, 21, has become one of the most sought-after strikers in world football off the back of a brilliant season with River Plate. He contributed 24 goals and 15 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions for Marcelo Gallardo’s side, playing a vital role in the club’s title triumph earlier this month.

According to Argentine publication, Ole, Manchester United are plotting a swoop for Julian Alvarez, who is also on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

The young striker has a measly release clause worth €20 million, and with the Argentine Primera Division recently ending, interest in the player is hotting up ahead of the January transfer window, the report adds.

Julian Alvarez to Manchester United—A top long-term investment for the Red Devils?

It is so easy to understand why Julian Alvarez is attracting interest from Manchester United.

Anthony Martial wants to leave the club next month for regular game, having made just seven Premier League appearances so far this season. Injury problems coupled with the summer signings of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho has pushed Martial down the attacking pecking order, with the Frenchman keen to join Sevilla if allowed to leave.

Edinson Cavani is out of contract at the end of the season and has attracted interest from Barcelona of late, while Cristiano Ronaldo has entered the twilight of his career. Suffice to say, signing Alvarez would be a step in the right direction for the Red Devils, with new interim boss Ralf Rangnick keen to involve more young talents into his high-energy, counter-pressing system.

Alvarez is quick, agile, energetic and lethal in front of goal. He is adept at dropping deep to link-up play with his fellow attackers before getting in the box to finish off a move. The five-cap Argentinean international, who can also operate out wide, packs an extremely powerful shot, can score with either foot, possesses great ball control and has got an eye for a pass to cut open a rigid backline.

In simpler terms, Alvarez is already a complete package at 21 and that is just scary. The hype surrounding him is justified, with the River Plate starlet boasting a rare combination of physicality and technical brilliance drawing attention from some of Europe’s bigwigs.

For such a talented young striker with immense potential to develop, Man United must quickly launch the offensive and trigger the €20 million release clause in Alvarez’s contract in January.
