Wolves will reportedly push to sign Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek in the January transfer window.

The Dutchman, 24, has struggled for game time since arriving at Manchester United from Ajax last summer. The summer signings of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo has further limited his opportunities under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the midfielder managing only 16 minutes of Premier League football.

Having started just two games in all competitions this season, the 24-year-old will look to leave Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window if he continues to be overlooked by Solskjaer.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Wolves manager Bruno Lage could hand Donny van de Beek a chance to revive his stuttering career at Molineux.

Wolves have fared well under the management of Bruno Lage this season and currently sit eighth in the table. After a slow start to the campaign, they’ve recovered well and had won three out of their last four games, before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park before the international break.

Donny van de Beek to Wolves—A good option for Bruno Lage?

Bruno Lage has encouraged Wolves to play a fast-paced, attacking and entertaining brand of football since taking the managerial baton from Nuno Espirito Santo in the summer. The likes of Raul Jimenez, Francisco Trincao and Hwang Hee-chan have linked up very well in the final third, with the latter impressing the most.

The absence of Pedro Neto, who was one of the Wanderers’ rare bright spots in an otherwise dire last campaign, has been largely felt. The likes of Daniel Podence and Adama Traore have also failed to make any sort of impact in the final third under Lage.

That being said, Wolves must improve their attacking options by signing a creative midfielder in January, and Manchester United flop Donny van de Beek would be a smart fit at Molineux.

Van de Beek is a technically gifted and tactically versatile player who can play in various positions across the midfield and is used to operating in different positions since his Ajax days. The 24-year-old is a progressive passer of the ball, excellent at exploiting spaces behind the defenders and brilliant at timing his runs late into the box to finish off chances.

The Dutchman’s spatial awareness and off the ball movement are two of his biggest assets, whilst being more than capable at finding teammates through little flicks and tricks in and around the box. He can be decisive in the final third with his sharp movement and one-touch football.

Van de Beek could add a different dimension to Wolves’ play, whilst providing some much-needed competition and depth in midfield. At Wolves, he can get back his mojo by playing regularly under a smart tactician like Lage.

All in all, Wolves signing Van de Beek on loan from Manchester United in January would benefit all parties involved.
