Manchester United endured a chastening afternoon at the King Power Stadium as Leicester City ran out 4-2 winners on Saturday in the Premier League.
After Mason Greenwood and Youri Tielemans had traded brilliant goals in the first half, Caglar Soyuncu gave Leicester City the lead before substitute Marcus Rashford hit back on his return from a long-term injury.
But it took only 15 seconds for the home side to respond with Jamie Vardy slamming home a half-volley before Patson Daka netted in stoppage time to seal an incredible victory for Leicester City that leaves Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under more pressure now.
Manchester United Player Ratings vs Leicester City
David de Gea- 5/10
De Gea made some good saves to keep Manchester United in the game in the second half but it counted for nothing. He was helpless for all the goals scored by the hosts.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka- 4/10
Wan-Bissaka started the game brightly and made some fine attacking runs in the first half. He was anonymous after the break and was partly at fault for Leicester’s third.
Harry Maguire-2/10
Solskjaer took a gamble to start Harry Maguire after his recovery from a calf injury and it completely backfired. Perhaps at fault for all the goals in what was a torrid afternoon for the Reds skipper. Not a happy return to his old club!
Victor Lindelof- 3/10
Better than his centre-back partner; Lindelof never looked comfortable dealing with the pace of Vardy throughout the afternoon. Picked out a sublime pass for Rashford’s equaliser but other than that had a tough outing in East Midlands.
Luke Shaw- 3/10
Not the best of games for Luke Shaw, whose positioning was bad and was vulnerable defensively. Looks like a shadow of the player from last season.
Nemanja Matic- 4/10
Started the game well, distributed the ball well and won possession back for his team by making crucial interceptions in the first half. The Serb’s impact in the game faded just like his teammates after the interval and was substituted later on.
Paul Pogba- 4/10
Not the worst player on the pitch for the visiting side but ceded possession way too often and gave away cheap fouls that broke the flow of the game. Never really got the hold of the game, a disappointing afternoon for the Frenchman!
Bruno Fernandes- 4/10
Fernandes did pick an assist but overall he had a mediocre outing. Never really made an impact as the game passed by him.
Mason Greenwood- 6/10
Probably Manchester United’s best player on the pitch, Greenwood opened the scoring with a stunning finish from long distance. He made some good runs behind the opposition backline, linked well at times and carried the biggest threat for United.
The 20-year-old’s impact waned in the second half and was subbed off.
Jadon Sancho- 3/10
Looked bright after Manchester United got a hold of the game after the opening goal and caused some problems to the Leicester backline with his movement and dribbling skills. Not effective at all in the next 45 minutes and was subbed off for Rashford.
Cristiano Ronaldo- 2/10
Nothing went right for Ronaldo as the Leicester defenders kept him at bay throughout the game. Missed an easy goal when put through on by Rashford in the injury time. A forgettable afternoon!
Substitutes
Marcus Rashford- 6/10
Rashford marked his return by grabbing the equaliser in the 82nd minute, slamming past Schmeichel after being put through by a brilliant ball from Lindelof. Showed some fine touches and should’ve got an assist for what was a horrible miss from Ronaldo.
Scott McTominay- 2/10
Came on for Matic but never made any impact.
Jesse Lingard- 3/10
Looked lively after coming on for Greenwood, and other than giving Schmeichel a catching practice, he was quiet.
