Ronaldo Up Top – Team News, Predicted 4-2-3-1 Manchester United Lineup vs Young Boys

After their impressive 4-1 win over Newcastle United, Manchester United will kick off their Champions League campaign with an away trip to the Swiss club Young Boys.

Cristiano Ronaldo made a triumphant return to Old Trafford, scoring a brace to help Manchester United stay at the top of the Premier League table.

Manchester United will now have to concentrate on starting their Champions League season in fine form. The Red Devils will hope to qualify to the knockout stages, which they didn’t do last season.

Team News

Striker Marcus Rashford and left-back Alex Telles are not ready yet, but Scott McTominay – who had an operation recently – could feature in the squad.

Dean Henderson and Phil Jones featured in Manchester United U23’s match against Arsenal on Saturday. Both players will perhaps need some match fitness before they make it to the senior squad.

Edinson Cavani, who was left out of Saturday’s win against Newcastle United due to a knock, could be a part of the Manchester United squad that travels to Switzerland.

Let’s take a look at the possible Manchester United lineup for the game against Young Boys:

Predicted Manchester United Lineup vs Young Boys

Goalkeeper

David de Gea, who has been in decent form this season, will continue in goal. Tom Heaton will be his deputy for Tuesday’s game.

Defence

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will want to qualify early from the group stages, so he will likely put out his best team for the game against Young Boys. We could see the Manchester United manager play the same backline that started against the Magpies on Saturday.

Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire should start at the heart of the defence, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw should start at right-back and left-back, respectively.

Diogo Dalot is an option in the full-back position, while both Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof should step in if Varane or Maguire are not fit or need to be rested.

Midfield

Nemanja Matic may not be able to play back-to-back games owing to his age, which could mean that Fred could return to the Manchester United lineup. Paul Pogba should start alongside him in the middle of the park.

Bruno Fernandes should retain his place in the No. 10 role, while Donny van de Beek – who was a late substitute against Newcastle United – will be an option off the bench.

Attack

Cristiano Ronaldo, fresh from his brace in his second debut, should start upfront. Mason Greenwood has looked sharp this season and should retain his role on the right.

Jadon Sancho has yet to settle in at Manchester United and he could make way for one of Anthony Martial or Jesse Lingard. Lingard could get the nod after being among the goals with club and country.

The likes of Cavani and Juan Mata could be options off the bench.
