Manchester United could make a move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma in the January transfer window. The Malian international has become a sought-after player with several big teams showing an interest thanks to his solid performances with the Seagulls.

As per Metro journalist Aden-Jay Wood, Manchester United along with Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in signing the 25-year-old. He states that Bissouma is happy at the club but there’s a possibility things could change in January. He further claims that Brighton did not receive any offers for Bissouma this summer.

The Malian has two years remaining on his current deal, having signed a five-year contract when he joined the club from Lille. Yves Bissouma has played 99 games for the club in all competitions, scoring four times and assisting twice.

Yves Bissouma: Is he what Ole needs?

Manchester United had a good summer transfer window as they signed three world-class players in Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane. The Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has several options in attack to choose from for the 2021-22 season.

But, they still lack a quality option in the middle of the park to break play up and provide cover to the backline, as well as move the ball out from the back. Fred and Scott McTominay have been trusted with the two midfield roles by Solskjaer, but neither has been consistent enough or has shown the ability to link up the play well enough.

United’s play depends on good ball-playing defenders and defensive midfielders; they have two very good ball-playing defenders in Varane and Maguire, but lack a composed figure in midfield.

Yves Bissouma could fix that gaping hole in the middle of the park, thanks to his energy, work-rate, tackling and dribbling ability. Bissouma can play in midfield or defensive midfield, and has shown that he’s capable of going up and down the pitch for the entire game. He is comfortable with the ball at his feet and confident of moving forward with the ball.

His greatest strength is his tackling and interceptions though, with the player averaging 2.9 tackles and 1.8 interceptions per game, respectively, last season. Bissouma’s speed, strength and stamina have helped him become a superb player in the Premier League. The addition of a player like Bissouma could give an attack-minded midfielder like Pogba more freedom to go ahead and play his natural game.

Yves Bissouma has a few years of Premier League experience under his belt and is at the right age to make the jump to a big side like Manchester United.
