Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski, who wants to leave the club next summer for a new adventure.

The Merseyside outfit managed to make just one summer signing in the form of defender Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig. While the transfer window is now shut, the Reds boss has already started planning for the future and wants to sign a centre-forward next summer.

According to Spanish news outlet Fichajes, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has requested the Anfield hierarchy to bring Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski to the club next summer.

Regarded as the best striker in Europe in the last few years, Lewandowski, 33, has taken Bayern Munich to another level purely with his goal-scoring ability. The Polish international scored a staggering 56 goals for club and country last season, whilst breaking Gerd Muller’s record of 41 goals in a single Bundesliga campaign.

The 33-year-old, who has a contract at the Allianz Area until 2023, recently starred with a brace in Bayern’s 3-0 victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou in the Champions League group stages.

Robert Lewandowski to Liverpool—A smashing move by the Reds?

Liverpool’s revered front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino—one of the best attacking trios in Europe—struggled to produce their best form last season. Salah, along with Mane and Firmino, have been remarkably consistent over the past few campaigns.

While Salah and Mane seem to have found their mojo this season, Firmino’s form and fitness should be a subject of concern for Klopp.

Firmino, 30, has never been a prolific goal-scorer at Anfield but it is his clever movement, smart link-up play and ability to exploit spaces behind the defences that make him such an important player in Klopp’s system.

Undoubtedly, the Brazilian international’s numbers have declined and his performance levels have dipped in recent seasons, and Klopp must look for an upgrade next summer to get the Reds challenging on all trophy fronts.

In terms of signing an upgrade on Firmino, Bayern Munich poacher Robert Lewandowski is definitely in that category, even though he is 33 years old. The Pole is one of the best in his positions for a long time now, and with Salah and Mane on either flank, he would instantly take the Liverpool attack to another level.

The 33-year-old’s finishing skills are next to none while his volumes of experience and winning mentality would only help the Merseyside outfit. Lewandowski, who has achieved it all at Bayern, is in great shape physically and is operating at the peak of his powers.

Klopp knows Lewandowski inside out having coached him previously at Borussia Dortmund, and such chemistry could prove pivotal for Liverpool potentially going into a transfer battle for the striker’s signature next summer.

All in all, signing the Polish international would enhance the Liverpool squad as well as make Klopp’s attacking unit arguably the best. But, he would not be a long-term addition.
