Tottenham Hotspur are close to finalising a deal to bring Sevilla winger Bryan Gil to North London. The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at La Liga side Eibar, scoring 4 times and assisting 3 times for the club.

As per The Guardian, the Premier League side are set to pay €25 million, as well as offer Erik Lamela in exchange for Gil. The winger has just two years remaining on his current deal at Sevilla.

Gil played for the Spanish national team for the first time earlier this year and has so far made 3 appearances for the senior team. He is currently a part of Spain’s squad for the Olympics.

Bryan Gil: The spark their attack needs?

Bryan Gil is an exciting young winger, who is a traditional wideman who likes to stick to the wing and drive at opposition defenders. The left-footed player likes to take on the opposition full-back with his speed and close control and put in crosses into the box. Gil played on the left side as a midfielder or further forward as part of a front three for Eibar last season.

He even played on the opposite flank on a few occasions and even as a No. 10. In 28 league appearances for Eibar last season, Gil averaged 2.4 dribbles and 1.8 key passes per game. The youngster also made an average of 1.5 crosses per game last season. Gil is a tricky player who can be a threat on the counter with his pace and dribbling and could be a huge asset for many sides.

Tottenham could rebuild significantly ahead of the 2021-22 season as they may have to look at life after Harry Kane. Son Heung-min will have an even more important role at the club if Kane leaves and he could even be played more centrally.

Even if Son does play out wide, they will need a backup for him on the left as they don’t have too many options in that position. Gil could play second fiddle to Son and feature in rotation and play the Cup fixtures. Gil could even be a useful player if manager Nuno Espirito Santo decides to play a three-man backline and give the three attackers more freedom up front.

While it may be too much to ask of Bryan Gil to make him a first-team starter in his very first season at the club, he could be an option off the bench in the second half to stretch the opposition defence. Gil could add some energy and freshness to the Spurs attack, which was solely dependent on the Kane-Son partnership last season.
