Leeds United have reportedly joined the race to sign talented Sassuolo winger Jeremie Boga this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds have expressed an interest in bringing the Ivorian to Elland Road this summer. However, they could face competition from Everton, Crystal Palace and Atalanta, all of whom are interested in the 24-year-old.

Boga has established himself as an integral member of the Sassuolo squad since his arrival from Chelsea in 2018. The 24-year-old has made 90 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists.

Although he was not as prolific as he would have liked to have been last season — Boga managed just four goals and two assists — he still played a key role in Sassuolo’s eighth-place finish in Serie A.

Boga has two years left on his current contract and could be available for around £20 million.

Can Jeremie Boga’s arrival propel Leeds United into Europe?

Leeds United finished in ninth place last season and with the right signings, they will undoubtedly be able to push for a European place.

Boga will add plenty of flair and dynamism to Marcelo Bielsa’s side. An agile winger who likes to take on defenders and beat them with his turn of pace and quick feet, Boga averaged 3.2 dribbles per game in the Serie A last season.

His versatility will also make him an attractive option for Bielsa, who likes to chop and change his squad and use players in different positions.

Primarily a left-winger, Boga can play through the middle as a playmaker or feature off the right flank. Last season, he averaged 1.2 shots, so he often got into good goal-scoring positions. He is also neat in possession and does not often give the ball away; he completed 89.4% of his attempted passes in the 2020-21 campaign.

Boga is also a threat in the penalty box and is a decent finisher in one-on-one situations.

Leeds currently have only Jack Harrison as an option on the left flank and making a move for Boga this summer is a no-brainer. The Ivorian might take some time to get used to the rigours of the Premier League, but he definitely has the ability to shine in England.
