Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey might be on his way back to Arsenal in the summer window.

Ramsey is a hugely popular figure at Arsenal after featuring over 350 times during his 11-year stay with the club. He opted to leave the Gunners to join Juventus on a free transfer in 2019. This was supposed to be a step forward for the midfielder, but his two-year spell in Turin has turned out to be a disaster.

He made 22 league appearances for the Italian giants this past season but 9 of them came as a brief sub. According to Calciomercato (via The Sun), Juventus and Aaron Ramsey are eager to part ways now. Arsenal are reported to be one of the many teams monitoring his situation.

The Welsh international has not been at his best since leaving the Emirates Stadium. He has suffered multiple injuries in the past two campaigns which never allowed his career to take off in Italy. He still has two years left on his contract with the Serie A giants and is priced at £12.60 million by Transfermarkt. Currently, he is on international duty with Wales. He will look to put on impressive performances to catch the attention of potential recruiters.

Should Arsenal re-sign Aaron Ramsey from Juventus?

Mikel Arteta wants to sign a midfielder in this transfer window. Dani Ceballos and Martin Ødegaard look set to move back to Real Madrid after the end of their loan spells with their futures set to be elsewhere. Granit Xhaka has also been linked with a transfer move to AS Roma. This will leave Arteta short on players who can feature at the centre of the park.

Aaron Ramsey was a standout player for the Gunners in his first spell, featuring in various positions, and still retains a number of his key strengths.

He is an excellent reader of the game, with sound tackling and passing ability. He also has the vision to create goal-scoring opportunities for the team. A return to the familiar surroundings might help him re-ignite his form.

Arsenal also need leadership in the squad especially in the middle of the park. Ramsey can bring that required calm and composure to the squad.

Having said that, the 30-year old is past his prime. Even if he is brought back, he should not be considered as someone who can make Arsenal compete for titles or indeed significantly improve their chances of a top four finish.

The English top-flight has gotten even more competitive in the past two years. The Welsh international might find it hard to settle with its pace and physicality. His injury record has worsened which means he might find himself on the sidelines more often than not. If Arteta wants to save his job at the Emirates, he will have to bring in players of higher quality and Ramsey can only be viewed as someone who can add some value to the squad and not a component that will solve the more worrying issues in the troubled Arsenal team.
