The last few days have been confusing for the Manchester United fans.

We saw reports from Edinson Cavani’s father claiming that his son “does not feel comfortable at Old Trafford”. He also stated that his son wanted to move to South America. On the next day, Cavani posted on social media that he is “Proud to wear the Shirt” which was contrasting to his father’s comments.

Solskjaer recently stated that “Edinson is fully focused on being available for us and working really had to get fit – from my bad Portuguese and his better English he is very proud to play for Manchester United”

Solskjaer also specified that no decision has been made regarding the contract extension and said that they are still working on getting him back to full fitness.

Keeping Cavani for another year would be good for Man United. They can afford to replace or rotate Martial, Greenwood, and Rashford with him. However, if Man United decides to go all in and sign someone like Erling Haaland this summer. Then, they could let go of Cavani.

Manchester United still lack a proper central striker and Cavani has shown us the qualities that he possesses as a marksman. There is no one in the current Man United squad who can replace a fit Edinson Cavani in the striker role.  Cavani has scored seven goals in all competitions in 25 games for United this season, which included nine Premier League starts.

With Anthony Martial struggling for goal scoring form this season, the Uruguayan international has established himself as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred choice to start up front.

There are speculations stating that he would like to end his career playing in South America and his preferred club is Boca Juniors as per ESPN. United has the option of extending Cavani’s contract by another year. But if they do not, then the club would have to pay him £1.75 million in compensation.

There is still a long way to go in the season with United very much involved in the Premier League and placed strongly in the Europa League. We feel Ole will wait till the end of the season to take a call and will be focusing on other tasks at hand from now till the end of the campaign.
