Aston Villa are considering a summer transfer for Chelsea and England striker Tammy Abraham. The 23-year-old is struggling to find a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s first team having played just 122 minutes of league football under the German manager.

Since Tuchel took over as manager of the Blues in January, the 23-year-old has been in and out of the side, scoring just once in the FA Cup against Barnsley.

According to the Daily Star, Villa remain admirers of  Tammy Abraham who had a successful loan spell in 2018/19 where he scored 26 league goals in the Championship.

Tuchel has stated that the striker is still in his plans and that he is only having a poor run of luck at the moment.

‘He lacks a little bit of luck, Tammy, not only in games but also in training,’ Tuchel said. ‘And once the last touch comes back, and he’s fighting for it now, he will stay a player that we will push for. “It’s my job to push him to his limits and we will not stop doing this in supporting him.

Despite being paid far less than most of his team-mates, the England International’s new contract lasts until 2023 even though he is yet to sign an extension.

The Chelsea academy graduate wants to play regular first-team football and is concerned after the alarming drop in playing time.

Will Tammy Abraham be the right choice for Aston Villa?

He played an important role last season to help the Blues reach the fourth position in the Premier League. From the start of last season, he has shown pace and a knack for scoring goals for Chelsea. Despite not getting enough game time under Tuchel, Tammy still remains a clinical striker that most teams in the top half of the Premier League would like to have in their ranks.

Tammy Abraham has a good history with Aston Villa in the Championship. He, along with club captain Jack Grealish, was instrumental in the team winning the Championship in 2019. And in the process, secured a much-needed promotion for Aston Villa.

Villa have Ollie Watkins as their first-team striker right now who has scored 10 goals and notched up 5 assists in the league this season. But Villa’s other options are currently not at the level Dean Smith wants his team to be at. If Villa can maintain their current form till the end of the season, there will be a massive urge to strengthen in the summer and prove this season was not a one-off.

The manager will also have a task on his hands to retain Jack Grealish’s services beyond this season and for that, signing players will be of paramount importance. Grealish has been one of the top creators in the Premier League but will need further support in the final third and signing a young and exciting English talent in Tammy Abraham will be a step in the right direction.
