After yet another week of Champions League and Europa League games, the Premier League will return on Friday night when Brighton host Burnley.
There are a few mouth-watering clashes, while a few managers of clubs could be on the brink of getting the sack as well ahead of another international break.
Let’s look at 5 things to look forward to in Matchweek 8…
Premier League Matchweek 8: Five Things to Look Forward to
#1 Everton vs Manchester United – Battle of the out of form sides
Manchester United have had a torrid season so far, and it went from bad to worse on Wednesday night when they lost to Istanbul Basaksehir – their first loss in this season’s Champions League.
The Red Devils had lost their last Premier League game to Arsenal, which made it three defeats in the opening six rounds of the Premier League season.
Another defeat in the league could make things really hard for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Manchester United take on Everton, who themselves will look to get back to winning ways after losing their last two league games.
The Toffees started well, but a combination of injuries and suspensions have derailed their bright beginning. Hopefully, we get a good game and not two cagey sides because of their recent form.
#2 Leicester City vs Wolves – battle of the underdogs for the top 4
While the two Manchester clubs have struggled, two other clubs have taken their place in the top 6 of the Premier League.
Leicester City and Wolves have made strong starts to the season. The Foxes are just a point behind leaders Liverpool, while Wolves are three behind the Reds.
The two sides face off on Sunday in what will be an exciting game, which could have serious implications at the end of the season. Both teams have pragmatic managers, and we could be in for a very tactical game come the weekend.
#3 The close fight at the top of the goal-scoring charts
We’ve seen bucket loads of goals this season as the league’s top strikers have hit form early in the season. After just seven rounds of the league, four players have scored more than seven goals.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Son Heung-Min lead the way with eight goals, while Mohamed Salah and Jamie Vardy have seven goals. Three players are currently on six goals and it’s pretty close at the top of the goal-scorers’ chart this season.
Tottenham Hotspur will face a struggling West Brom on Sunday, which could be a good chance for Son and Harry Kane to score a few this weekend.
#4 Chelsea’s chance to close the gap at the top
Chelsea have become better at the back over the last few weeks, which has coincided with the introduction of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to the Blues starting XI.
The Londoners have kept clean sheets in their last five games in all competitions and will be expected to keep another one when they face Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge.
A win for Chelsea and results going in their favour could see them get into the top 4 and close the gap with Liverpool and co. at the top.
Things are falling into place pretty well for Frank Lampard, as they have managed to stem the concession of goals, and have not found it hard to break teams down.
#5 Liverpool vs Manchester City
The marquee fixture of the Premier League this weekend is Liverpool vs Manchester City as the defending champions travel to Manchester to face the former Premier League winners.
The Reds have gone to the top of the table and have put that embarrassing defeat to Aston Villa behind them. City, meanwhile, have not looked convincing this season and have drawn two and won two since their loss against Leicester City.
Pep Guardiola’s men will have to get a win to still be in the race for the league as they are already five points behind Liverpool, although they have a game in hand.
