Tottenham Hotspur look like a completely different side now to the one that played in the opening game of the 2020-21 Premier League season against Everton. The north London club have been playing free-flowing football both in the Europa League as well as the Premier League, recently putting 6 past a disjointed Manchester United side.
Jose Mourinho, in his second season in charge of the club, has brought in his kind of players, ones that will work hard, are strong on and off the ball, and have a winning mentality. The side looks very strong going forward, especially after the addition of Gareth Bale from Real Madrid.
Strongest Tottenham Lineup With Their New Signings
Goalkeeper
Hugo Lloris has been an ever-present fixture in this Spurs side for 8 years, having joined the club way back in 2012. He is Spurs’s No. 1, with former Manchester City keeper Joe Hart being his deputy.
Defence
Jose Mourinho has moved Eric Dier to defence and he seems to be the Portuguese manager’s first-choice central defender alongside Davinson Sanchez in the Tottenham lineup. New signings Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguilon should play at right-back and left-back, both of whom offer something in attack and defence.
Serge Aurier – who had a superb game against Manchester United – will compete against Doherty for the right-back slot, while Ben Davies is an option for Mourinho at left-back.
Midfield
Mourinho has re-integrated Tanguy Ndombele into the Tottenham lineup after it had seemed that the Frenchman would leave the club following a row with the Spurs manager. Following his decent form in the last few games, Spurs’ record signing could become a permanent fixture in the Spurs midfield alongside new signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The likes of Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks or Giovani Lo Celso could fight it out to be the other midfielder in Spurs’ midfield. Lo Celso offers technical ability and creativity from midfield, and he would form a well-balanced midfield trio with the other two options.
Attack
The attack is perhaps the easiest to pick if Mourinho has all players fit and available. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have formed a tremendous understanding upfront, and they should start in the middle and on the left, respectively. Gareth Bale, once he returns from injury, should start on the right in the Tottenham lineup.
If Jose can get them to click, the trio could well end up challenging the Mane-Firmino-Salah trinity as the best forward line in the league.
The likes of Lucas Moura, Steven Bergwijn, Erik Lamela, and loan signing Carlos Vinicius offer Mourinho more options in attack.
