Saka Impresses, Big Names Abject: Arsenal Player Ratings From Their Defeat Against Manchester City

Arsenal suffered a loss at the hands of Manchester City on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium in their latest Premier League outing.

Raheem Sterling’s delightful goal in the first half was followed by a strong defensive performance by the Sky Blues, which took the game away from Mikel Arteta’s entourage.

Here are our Arsenal player ratings from what transpired over the 90 mintues.

Bernd Leno 6/10

The custodian could have done better to parry Phil Foden’s effort further away during the home side’s opening goal. He made 4 saves but was slow at distributing the ball.

 Hector Bellerin 6/10

He did not offer much in the attack but toiled incessantly at the back, which was the only positive sign.

Gabriel Magalhaes 7/10

Unarguably Arsenal’s best defender against City, the central defender was solid against Riyad Mahrez and read the game meticulously.

David Luiz 6/10

Luiz was close to scoring an own goal and was put under a lot of duress by Pep Guardiola’s attackers.

Kieran Tierney 7/10

The Scottish international linked up well with Bukayo Saka down the left and made some exciting forward runs, which is never easy for a player returning from a lay-off.

Dani Ceballos 6/10

Far from his usual high standards in terms of productivity, Ceballos never really tested City’s defence. However, he made notable defensive contributions, carving 3 tackles to his name.

Granit Xhaka 5/10

Guardiola’s clan were comfortable in bossing the midfield due to Xhaka’s lacklustre performance. He was futile in breaking City’s attacking endeavours and was dispossessed on a couple of occasions.

Bukayo Saka 8/10

With no dearth in his energy and commitment, the young gun completed 3 dribbles and made 2 successful tackles. He was denied by Ederson just before the interval after an exquisite build-up with Tierney.

Nicolas Pepe 6/10

Pepe mustered a terrible pass completion rate of 58% and could never really cause troubles for Nathan Ake. He hardly had any intriguing moments and needs to step up at the earliest.

Willian 5/10

The former Chelsea attacker started from an unfamiliar no. 9 position but failed to make impact whatsoever, and was kept at bay by Ruben Dias and Kyle Walker.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 5/10

His form has clearly dipped following his contract extension with the Gunners. Aubameyang was left isolated and it was easy for Walker to tame him.

Substitutions

Alexandre Lacazette 5/10

He replaced Willian in the second half to find the back of the net but he languished in the deeper areas, which is why he could not make any impact.
