Real Madrid Ace Reportedly Prefers A Move To Manchester United: Do They Need Him?

Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic reportedly wants to join Premier League side Manchester United, as per his agent. Jovic made a big-money move from Eintracht Frankfurt to Real Madrid, but he had a difficult first season with the Spanish giants.

As per Daily Star, Jovic’s agent has told Real Madrid that his client wants to join Manchester United, rather than Inter Milan or Roma, two clubs that are also interested in signing him.

The Serbian forward will reportedly be allowed to leave the club on loan, as Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane wants the 22-year-old to play regular first-team football and regain his confidence.

The report states that Manchester United will have to pay Jovic’s full wages if he joins the Red Devils on loan. The 22-year-old joined Madrid ahead of the 2019-20 season for a fee of around €60 million.

Luka Jovic – Do Manchester United need him?

Luka Jovic had a dream 2018-19 season with Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, where he scored 27 goals and made seven assists in 48 appearances for the club. His fantastic season earned him a move to Madrid, where he struggled and scored just twice in 27 appearances in all competitions.

The Serbian international will continue to be a backup option to Real Madrid star Karim Benzema, if he stays another year at the club.

Jovic is a forward who comes alive in the penalty area, thanks to his excellent finishing ability, as well as his ability to find space in the penalty box. The forward is a quick player that can be deadly in counter-attacking situations, while also using his pace to run in behind defences as well as press from the front.

He is a penalty box player, who, at times, drops deep to link play. Jovic is the proverbial “fox in the box” striker, who could score plenty when paired with a bigger forward or with a No. 10 playing behind him to feed in balls to him.

The Serbian could be a good signing for Manchester United, who need more options in attacking areas. While Anthony Martial had a fantastic 2019-20 season, and showed his true ability, his No. 2, Odion Ighalo, has been less than impressive and has not been trusted to play in key games.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs another option upfront as he will be left with just one striker in Martial in January as Ighalo will return to his parent club. Jovic could flourish around quick players like Rashford and Greenwood, and with a world-class No. 10 like Bruno Fernandes behind him, he could recreate the form that he showed in the 2018-19 season for Eintracht Frankfurt.
