Newcastle United have entered the race to sign Napoli forward Arkadiusz Milik in this summer transfer window. The Polish centre-forward, who has been with the Italian side since 2016, could leave the club as he is entering the final year of his contract.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Milik is a target for Newcastle United, while Spanish side Valencia, are also interested in signing him this summer. AS Roma were reportedly interested in signing him, but have dropped out of the race for the exciting striker.

Arkadiusz Milik joined the Italian side from Ajax in 2016 for €35 million. In 122 games for Napoli, the Polish striker has scored 48 goals and assisted 5 times.

Arkadiusz Milik: How would he fit into this Newcastle team?

Newcastle United got off to a promising start in their 2020-21 Premier League campaign with a win against West Ham United, where the new centre-forward pairing of Andy Carroll and summer signing Callum Wilson, combined well. But, the same strike-pair failed in the next game against Brighton, with Carroll even being hauled off at half-time.

Carroll is a player who is somewhat one-dimensional and injuries have hurt his goalscoring ability to a large extent. Last summer’s big-money signing Joelinton, failed to get going throughout his first season and doesn’t seem to have the ability to score even 10 goals a season which means despite having some big names, the Magpies might well end up failing to sort their goalscoring issues once again.

Their interest in signing Arkadiusz Milik should be exciting for Newcastle fans. Milik is a player who is quick, strong, and has a deadly left foot. The Polish forward is a deadly finisher in and around the box, while he is also a player that can drop deep and make things happen for his team, something lacking in the current crop of players barring new signing Wilson.

He has good close control and can drift past players in the final third. Arkadiusz Milik is adept at playing as the main striker or just behind the central striker. He has also played as an inside forward on the right side, drifting into central areas with his stronger left foot. The 26-year-old is a player with tremendous ability and would be a sensational signing for the Magpies. Steve Bruce’s 4-4-2 formation could work with a deep-lying striker like Milik, who could link up with the advanced midfield players and allow Wilson to play up forward, running behind defences.
