Brighton vs Manchester United: 3 Burning Questions Ahead of the Clash

Manchester United travel to the Amex Stadium to play Brighton this Saturday, and the Red Devils will hope to get their first points of the 2020-21 Premier League season.

Brighton have lost one and won one in the season so far, losing to Chelsea and winning 3-0 against Newcastle United. The Seagulls have been mighty impressive on the pitch so far, and will be a challenge for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Brighton have also beaten Manchester United twice in their last five encounters. Ahead of the game between Manchester United and Brighton, here are 3 burning questions ahead of Brighton vs Manchester United.

#3 Can Manchester United muster up a better defensive display?

Manchester United’s loss to Crystal Palace did come as a surprise, considering how strongly they ended last season, and the quality they have in their squad compared to the Eagles. While the creative players in the team lacked the cutting edge required to break the Palace defence, the defence was mainly at fault for United’s loss.

Victor Lindelof was the main culprit, who made mistakes in all three goals that United conceded. Eric Bailly played in Lindelof’s place in the EFL Cup game against Luton Town, and looked decent.

Solskjaer could drop Lindelof for Bailly, while we could also see Timothy Fosu-Mensah drop out of the starting XI for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

#2 Will Brighton play three attackers?

Brighton have looked good in the two Premier League games, even in their defeat to Chelsea on the opening day of the season. Graham Potter’s side have been a threat going forward and they could post a lot of problems for Manchester United.

The Seagulls played slick football, and moved the ball quickly in their two opening games. It will be interesting to see if Potter plays a three-man attack, or switches to a two-man attack with five central midfielders crowding the middle of the park.

New signing Adam Lallana played the first game but suffered an injury. He could be back in contention for Saturday’s game.

#1 Will Paul Pogba start for Manchester United vs Brighton?

French midfielder Paul Pogba wasn’t at his best against Brighton as he lacked energy, and gave away the ball cheaply on numerous occasions. He was hauled off for new signing Donny van de Beek, who made an immediate impact by scoring a goal.

Pogba could be dropped by Solskjaer, especially considering the energy that the Brighton midfielders have shown. Matic could come in for McTominay, while we could also see Pogba drop out of the starting XI for van de Beek.
