Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing Ryan Sessegnon from Tottenham Hotspur on a loan deal. The 20-year-old winger-cum-full back has made just 12 appearances for the North London side since moving to the club from Fulham in 2019.

As per The Athletic, the Whites, along with German side Hertha Berlin and Premier League side Brighton, are interested in signing the young Englishman.

Sessegnon was signed by Spurs for around £25 million, after impressing for the Cottagers in the Championship and the Premier League. He still has five years remaining on his current contract with Tottenham.

Ryan Sessegnon to Leeds United – A good option for Bielsa?

Ryan Sessegnon would add more speed, strength, and energy on the flanks. The versatile Englishman, who can play as a winger or a full-back, likes to bomb forward at every opportunity and put in crosses, or take shots on goal.

The best season of his professional career came in the 2017–18 Championship season when he scored 16 times while also registering eight assists. The subsequent season in the Premier League with Fulham wasn’t as good as he scored only twice and registered six assists. But his phenomenal potential earned him a move to Spurs.

The arrival of Jose Mourinho as Tottenham manager has hurt Sessegnon’s chances. He has featured infrequently and has yet to play in the 2020-21 season for Tottenham in any competition.

He perhaps needs a loan spell away from Spurs to get some much-needed game time and remind people what he is truly capable of. Leeds United would be a great place to further his development under manager Marcelo Bielsa. Sessegnon could be a backup option to Jack Harrison on the left-wing, who is currently on loan at Manchester City.

Harrison has been superb for the Whites this season, but Bielsa does not have too many other quality options on the left flank. Ian Poveda and Ezgjan Alioski are other options for Bielsa, but neither has the quality or consistency to be first-choice options or even compete with Harrison on the left flank.

The addition of Sessegnon would further strengthen the Leeds United squad as the Whites will need good depth to stay in the Premier League, or potentially target a top-half finish.
