Crystal Palace are the favourites to sign Liverpool’s young forward Rhian Brewster. The 20-year-old striker will be allowed to leave the reigning Premier League champions, who want to sell numerous fringe players, including Harry Wilson, Divock Origi, Marko Grujic and Loris Karius.
As per Daily Mail, Palace have jumped ahead of West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United in the race to sign the young Englishman. The report states that Rhian Brewster will be available for a fee of around £20 million. Liverpool reportedly want a buy-back clause and a sell-on clause added to any deal to sign Brewster.
Rhian Brewster, who was the top scorer in the U17 World Cup in 2017, has played four times for the Liverpool senior team. He spent the second part of the 2019-20 season on loan at Championship side Swansea City, where he scored 10 goals in 20 appearances.
Rhian Brewster: Good move?
Rhian Brewster is regarded as one of the most talented young English forwards currently and is rated across Europe as well. The 20-year-old striker is a gifted footballer, who is technically sound but also has the determination and speed to eventually become one of the best forwards in England. The Liverpool striker has speed to burn, capable of destroying defences with his pace and dribbling ability.
He is a calm and composed finisher in and around the penalty area, while he also has shown a penchant for shooting from long range, successfully. Brewster has shown that he can not only be a penalty box player, running in behind defences and waiting for opportunities in the penalty area, but also drop deep to make things happen for his team. He is a livewire on the field who could lift the rest of his team with his speed and energy.
Crystal Palace would benefit hugely from signing a player of the calibre and potential of Rhian Brewster. The future of Wilfried Zaha is still uncertain, and if the Ivory Coast international leaves the club, Brewster could be a natural replacement for him, in Roy Hodgson’s new 4-4-2 system. Brewster could play alongside Jordan Ayew – who can also play on the wing, on-loan striker Michy Batshuayi or Christian Benteke.
The signing of Brewster will give manager Roy Hodgson more options, and Palace could be in line to secure a top 10 finish, especially after their strong start to the 2020-21 Premier League season.
