Back in the Premier League, West Bromwich Albion will be desperate to add quality to their squad this summer and the latest name now linked with a move to Hawthorns is that of Watford star, Troy Deeney.

Reports from The Daily Mail claim that the Baggies have been offered a chance to sign Troy Deeney, who is unsure about his Vicarage Road future.

However, the same story claims that Slaven Bilic is more interested in younger alternatives and may not take up the chance to sign Deeney.

But will this be a viable move for West Brom?

Troy Deeney’s Experience

Now 32, Troy Deeney may not have too many years at his prime left to offer but he is one of the most experienced strikers in the Premier League and can only improve the West Brom squad.

An aggressive and dominating striker, Deeney is no longer a fluid presence in attack but his positioning and finishing make him a dangerous player even in the top flight.

Deeney has now spent a decade with the Hornets during which he has registered 133 goals and 59 assists in 398 appearances for the club in all competitions. In his time here, he has provided some memorable moments as the captain of the club including the push to promotion five years ago.

He is a natural finisher and scored 10 goals for a side who were relegated last season. So even at 32, Deeney will certainly be a threat in front of goal next season as well.

Troy Deeney: Right Man For West Brom?

The Baggies had Charlie Austin and Hal Robson-Kanu as the top goal scorers last season with 10 goals apiece.

Both players are now 31 and have previously been impressive in the Premier League. But Bilic is not totally convinced with either option and will be desperate to add goals to his side ahead of the season.

Kenneth Zohore does have two goals in three starts for Bilic’s side and could be a decent option but Deeney’s experience will not only guarantee productivity in front of goal but will also add a mentor in the dressing room, that can make all the difference in the difficult moments over the course of the season.

Deeny can run the lines, can drop back and defend when needed and can also be an asset for West Brom off the bench.

Reports suggest Huddersfield’s Karlan Grant is also on Bilic’s radar but the West Brom manager is better off taking a chance with the experience of Deeney, who can turn into a genuine match-winner if complemented by the right players.

However, Troy Deeney is not a long term solution for the lack of goals at West Brom so Bilic has reason to search for younger alternatives. But signing the Watford man will give Bilic more time to scout for the right player so this deal for Deeney may be profitable to West Brom in more ways than one.
