Tottenham Hotspur are apparently keen on signing Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon. The 23-year-old Reguilon spent the 2019-20 season on loan at Sevilla, where he helped the team win the Europa League earlier this month.
As per Marca, Spurs are one of many clubs interested in signing the Spaniard. The likes of Manchester United, Inter Milan and Juventus are the other clubs linked with a move for the player. The report further states that Real Madrid want a fee of around €20 and €25 million. Sevilla are also interested in bringing him back to the club for another season.
Sergio Reguilon has come through the ranks at Real Madrid and played one season for the senior side before being sent out on loan to Sevilla. He still has three years remaining on his contract at Madrid.
Sergio Reguilon: Should Jose make a move?
Tottenham could only muster a disappointing 6th place finish last season, just about securing the final Europa League spot. The north London club have a lot of work to do to get back into the reckoning near the top of the table. Manager Jose Mourinho has to make wise signings in the summer, especially at the back, which has sported a patched-up look for a long time now.
They are closing in on the signature of Wolves right-back Matt Doherty, and are now targeting a player to bolster the opposite flank.
Sergio Reguilon is a promising left-back, who is a big threat going forward with his dribbling and speed, as well as his tenacious tackling. The Spaniard averaged 1.6 dribbles per game in La Liga – which is a strong number for a full-back while also playing 2.3 long balls on an average.
The defender is decent in the air and doesn’t shy away from putting his foot in to make key tackles. He is a livewire on the pitch and is always eager to get involved in the approach play. Reguilon could be a very good addition to the Spurs side and could become the first-choice left-back, ahead of Ben Davies.
With Danny Rose unlikely to have a future at the club, Mourinho has just one natural left-back in Davies. Young Ryan Sessegnon is another option, but it seems the 20-year-old will be played further forward as a winger, with Jose not entirely convinced of his defensive acumen at the top-level.
Sergio Reguilon had a terrific season with Sevilla and played a starring role for them in their Europa League triumph, and he could be a fantastic signing for Mourinho and Spurs, who need new faces and more than that, fresher legs.
