Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing Liverpool attacker Harry Wilson on loan ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Wilson spent the previous season on loan at Bournemouth, who were relegated from the Premier League.

The Northern Echo have reported that Magpies owner Mike Ashley is willing to spend £35 million in the summer, excluding the money earned from player sales.

Wilson is one of the targets for Newcastle United, a player they were interested in last season as well, but he eventually joined Bournemouth on a season-long loan. The Mirror claim Wilson will cost £20 million.

Crystal Palace and Southampton are also rumoured to be interested in signing Wilson. The Welsh international scored 7 times and assisted twice in the 2019-20 season for Bournemouth. His current contract with Liverpool expires in 2023.

Harry Wilson – A good attacking option for Newcastle United?

The Magpies played defensive football in the 2019-20 season, eking out results after playing on the back-foot. But, they can’t keep playing that way, and they could drop into the relegation zone if they don’t score enough goals next season.

But, there were a few players that shone in attack last season, one of them being winger Allan Saint-Maximin. The 23-year-old had a solid debut season, on the left side of attack. Steve Bruce had fewer options over on the right, with Miguel Almiron playing there on occasion, while loan signing Valentino Lazaro also played there.

Almiron is better off as a No. 10, playing in and around the attack and creating chances for the striker. A player like Harry Wilson could fill in on the right side of attack, and could provide balance to the wide areas.

Wilson has good technical ability, capable of taking on defences and beating them, while also having the ability to put in crosses and passes. He also has the knack of scoring goals, cutting in from the wide areas to shoot with his strong left foot.

Wilson is a Welsh international and has prior Premier League experience, and he could be a fantastic signing for Newcastle United, adding quality to the right-hand side, like Saint-Maximin has done over on the left.

Newcastle United need more attacking talent in their squad so Joelinton’s life will be easy. A big reason why the Brazilian struggled was he barely had in support in attack. With players like Wilson around him, he could have more opportunities to score next season.
