Leeds United are reportedly targeting a move for Feyenoord central defender, Marcos Senesi.

The 23-year-old Argentine joined the Dutch club last September, and had a good first season at the club.

Journalist Martin Flores (via TalkSport) has claimed that Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is looking closely at his compatriot, who made a big impression since moving from San Lorenzo.

Everton are also reportedly interested in the central defender. Leeds will have to fork out around £18 million for Senesi, if they want to sign him.

The 23-year-old centre-back played 25 times for Feyenoord in all competitions, scoring thrice for the club.

Marcos Senesi to Leeds United – The defensive quality they need

Marcos Senesi is a left-footed centre-back who is aggressive and tenacious in defence, and does not let much get past him.

The 23-year-old likes to press up high and make tackles and interceptions, averaging 2.4 tackles per game in the Dutch league last season. The Argentine is strong, reads the game well to make vital interceptions and blocks, and can also move the ball up quickly.

Senesi has shown great composure at the back, whether he’s defending or bringing the ball out from the deeper areas of his own half. The centre back also has a good left foot, averaging 59.4 passes per game last season.

He is also confident enough to drive from the back to start attacks, averaging a dribble a game. Senesi could be a good signing for Leeds, as his aggression, pressing, strength, and passing will mesh well with manager Marcelo Bielsa’s tactics.

The Whites will have to sign at least one – if not two – central defenders ahead of the 2020-21 Premier League season. Ben White, who had an exceptional campaign with Leeds in the 2019-20 season, has returned to his parent club Brighton.

With White’s departure, Leeds have just one fit, quality central defender in captain Liam Cooper, as experienced centre-back, Gaetano Berardi suffered a nasty injury that will keep him out for around 9 months.

Senesi could slot in on the left side of defence for Leeds, while Cooper can play alongside him, giving the defence good balance in the Premier League.
