Manchester United will host Sheffield United at Old Trafford later today in what will be a crucial game for both teams in their quest to finish in the top four.
The two sides are separated by just two points in the Premier League table. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, while Sheffield United are in 8th position, but are still in with a chance of finishing in the top four.
Despite dominating the game, Manchester United could only salvage a point against Tottenham when the two sides squared off last Friday.
The Red Devils will have to win against Sheffield United to not just keep up the pressure on Chelsea, but also ensure they don’t slip backwards and out of the European spots.
Manchester United Team News
Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are the only absentees for United, having also missed the game against Spurs. Victor Lindelof is fit despite hobbling off late in the game against Tottenham.
Let’s take a look at the Manchester United predicted lineup for the game against Sheffield United:
Predicted Manchester United Lineup vs Sheffield United
Goalkeeper
Despite his mistake against Tottenham, David de Gea should start between the sticks for Manchester United against Sheffield United.
Defence
Harry Maguire’s mistake allowed Steven Bergwijn to run in on goal and score in the last game against Spurs. He will hope to put in a better performance at Old Trafford on Wednesday. Lindelof may continue alongside the United captain despite coming off against Spurs.
Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka should continue at left-back and right-back, respectively.
Midfield
Paul Pogba got 30 minutes under his belt against Spurs and impressed in the time he was on the pitch. Solskjaer could give the midfielder a start against Sheffield United replacing Fred in the Manchester United lineup.
Scott McTominay, who recently signed a five-year contract with Manchester United, will start in a deeper midfield role.
Bruno Fernandes put in a man of the match performance against Spurs, scoring the important penalty, and he should start in the attacking midfield role.
Attack
Marcus Rashford was quiet against Spurs, but he should retain his place on the left side of attack. Daniel James, though, maybe replaced in the team, with Mason Greenwood playing in his place on the right side of attack.
Anthony Martial should complete the Manchester United lineup, but the Frenchman needs to up his game after a lacklustre performance against Tottenham.
