How Leeds United Could Line Up After The Championship Resumes

leeds united lineup

The Championship will resume next Saturday, and league leaders Leeds United will travel to Wales to face Cardiff City.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are a point ahead of West Bromwich Albion, who are in second, and will look to finish in the top two spots to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Before the Championship was halted, Leeds were on a good run of form. They had won five on the trot without conceding a goal. In their last 10 league fixtures, the Whites have won six, lost three and drawn one, and will look to finish the season on a strong note.

Let’s take a look at how Leeds United could line up after the season resumes:

How Leeds United could line up for the rest of the season

Goalkeeper

Leeds’ first-choice goalkeeper, Kiko Casilla, will be suspended for six more games, and in his absence, young French custodian Illan Meslier should continue in goal for the Whites.

Defence

Ben White and Liam Cooper should start in central defence for the Whites, with Gaetano Berardi dropping to the bench.

Luke Ayling should also retain his place in the starting XI, and feature in the right-back role. Bielsa has quite a few options to choose from for the left-back position.

Stuart Dallas played at left-back before the league was suspended, and he should continue in that position. The likes of Barry Douglas and Ezgjan Alioski are other options for Leeds.

Midfield

Kalvin Phillips was out for a few games before the hiatus, but he is now fit and should start in the holding midfield role for the Championship leaders.

Mateusz Klich should continue in the central midfield position, while the absence of Adam Forshaw, who is still out due to injury, means that Pablo Hernandez could start alongside Klich in an attacking role.

Jamie Shackleton will be an option off the bench for Bielsa.

Attack

Jack Harrison should keep his place on the left side of attack after a fine 2019-20 season for Leeds. On the other side, Helder Costa has shown promise and sparks of brilliance. He should start as the right-sided winger for Leeds.

Jean-Kevin Augustin has had yet another injury, and he will not be available for Leeds. This means that Patrick Bamford will keep his position in the starting XI. Bielsa will have Tyler Roberts to call upon if needed.
