Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti, in a bid to strengthen the backline of his team, has decided to join the race for Brazilian defender Thiago Silva.

Thiago Silva’s contract at Paris Saint Germain runs out this summer and the player has not signed a new deal yet with the club, despite an offer for a year’s extension as reported by Le10 Sport.

The Toffees are looking to use their boss’s excellent connection with the defender to bring him to Goodison Park and are hoping to beat Italian giants AC Milan who are also keen to add Silva to their roster.

Silva has been an excellent soldier for the Parisian giants over the years leading them to seven titles and Everton gaffer, Carlo Ancelotti, is a huge admirer of the experienced centre-back like many others.

Thiago Silva: A shrewd move by Ancelotti?

Everton has not been at their very best even after the appointment of a mastermind like Carlo Ancelotti. They have struggled to cope up with their ambition and are yet to reflect the positives of the job done by Ancelotti at Goodison.

Though Everton, who if thinking of the long run, need to sign younger and fitter talents at the moment, the decision of bringing in Thiago Silva is not something to write off. Thiago Silva is a gigantic presence at the back not because of his size but his ability and understanding of the game.

Ancelotti’s men clearly lack a leader at the moment who could organize the defence and motivate the team on and off the pitch during tough times. Currently, 35, with tonnes of experience, is there any better option than Thiago SIlva who could justify the role and bring back the discipline at Merseyside while at the same time being a free agent? The answer is simply no.

In the short term, to bring stability, Thiago Silva could form a solid partnership with Yerry Mina at the back, who has been decent for Everton since his arrival in 2018. Thiago’s class is still intact and with talents like Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman and Djibril Sidibe as side-backs, Everton’s defence could get a whole new dimension with the added and much-needed leadership.

The move is indeed a shrewd one by Ancelotti, who has rightly spotted the glitches in his team. The inclusion of the Brazilian, who is renowned for his dedication towards the shirt he is donning, could well be a mental boost for the whole team and could instil in them the much-needed energy on the pitch and passion for the badge.
