Making way: 3 players Chelsea should get rid of to accommodate new signings| Opinion

Chelsea are bracing for a busy summer as they are set to sign several players, to rebuild their team under manager Frank Lampard. The Blues will allow several of their first-team players to leave, as per Daily Star, with the impending arrival of striker Timo Werner, as well as other players.

Lampard has given opportunities to several youngsters in the 2019-20 season and seems to have a transfer strategy in place where he seeks to recruit young, talented players.

With Chelsea planning to let go of several players, let’s take a look at 3 players they should get rid of to accommodate new signings.

3 players Chelsea should look to sell

Marcos Alonso/Emerson

Chelsea are in the market for a left-back, with them being linked strongly with a move for highly-rated English fullback Ben Chilwell. It seems that Lampard is not a fan of either of his current options – Marcos Alonso and Emerson, and we could see one of them leave the club in the summer. The other left-back will end up playing second fiddle if Lampard can secure his target.

Alonso’s defending has still not improved and he can’t be trusted at left-back, especially with the weak centre back-goalkeeper partnership that currently exists at the club. Emerson, meanwhile, hasn’t really settled down in the team and he could make a return to Italy.

Kurt Zouma

As mentioned earlier, the Chelsea defence has been lacklustre this season and Lampard needs to sign a centre back to play alongside Antonio Rudiger. One central defender who could be let go by the Blues is Kurt Zouma, who was linked with a move to Everton, as per the same Daily Star report.

The Frenchman could still move to Merseyside where he had suitably impressed, for the Toffees to be interested in his services again.

Michy Batshuayi

The player that will be affected directly by the possible signing of Timo Werner is Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian’s position in the squad is the most uncertain. Tammy Abraham, who has led the line for the Blues this season – and has done so very well – will surely stay at the club and play second fiddle to Werner if the move goes through.

Olivier Giroud, who was tipped to leave, has signed a new, one-year deal with the club. This means that Batshuayi will become fourth-choice forward if the Blues sign Werner. Chelsea wouldn’t need four players to choose from for one position, and Batshuayi will most likely leave the club, something which could turn out to be beneficial for him given the rut in form he finds himself in.
