Newcastle United have reportedly been linked with a move for exciting Napoli attacker Hirving Lozano.

The Mexican, who joined the Italian club in summer 2019, could be on his way out after a poor first season with the side.

Corriere dello Sport (via Transfer Market Web) have reported that Lozano could be sold by the Italian side only if a €50 million bid comes in for him. The likes of Manchester United and Everton are also rumoured to be interested in the 24-year-old attacker.

Lozano moved to Napoli from PSV for a fee of €42 million, and has played 23 times for the club in the 2019-20 season, scoring three goals in the process.

Hirving Lozano to Newcastle United – A smashing move by the club?

It seems that Newcastle United, who are set to have new owners, are targeting a squad overhaul for next season.

The Magpies have been linked with quality names attackers like Gareth Bale, Bertrand Traore, and Edinson Cavani. They need one or two swashbuckling forwards to add some freshness to their attack, which has looked rather dreary under Steve Bruce in the 2019-20 season.

The signing of Hirving Lozano would be a bit of a gamble, but it is one that the Magpies must take. The Mexican, who can play out wide on either flank, as a centre-forward, or even a supporting striker, is a quick, versatile, and clever player.

A hard-working attacker, Lozano tracks back and is good at pressing opposition players, and can drive at defences in transition phases.

The 24-year-old can put in teasing crosses and passes into the box when is in the wider areas, and doesn’t shy away from drifting into the central areas to catch defensive lines off guard.

Armed with a strong right foot, Lozano can hit stinging shots at goal, while also being a composed finisher inside the box. He is a player that Newcastle United fans will love for his work-rate, speed, dribbling, and his goal-scoring ability, which Napoli fans sadly haven’t seen much of.

The only worry for the Magpies will be his form in Italy. The Dutch league isn’t the strongest in Europe, which is where Lozano flourished. He will have to work hard to recapture that form in the Premier League, and it will be interesting to see if he will excel under pressure in the Premier League.

At 24, Lozano is young and is worth the gamble for Newcastle United – if it works out for the Magpies, he could become a cult figure at St. James’ Park.
