Premier League side Chelsea are rumoured to be keen on signing Fiorentina winger, Federico Chiesa. The 22-year-old Italian, who has come through the ranks at Fiorentina, has made over 120 appearances for the club since his debut in 2016.

As per Daily Express, the Blues are interested in signing Chiesa, while rivals Manchester United are also keeping tabs on the winger. The two interested parties will be boosted by Fiorentina chief Joe Barone’s recent comments where he revealed that the club will not stop players from moving away in the summer.

Federico Chiesa has been in decent form in the 2019-20 season, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists in 26 games in all competitions. The Italian’s contract with the club expires in 2022.

Federico Chiesa: What will he add to the team?

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard will be keen to add a few players to his team in the summer transfer window, especially in the wide areas. Two of Chelsea’s experienced wide men, Willian and Pedro, will most likely leave the club at the end of the season when their contracts expire. This will leave the Blues with just two natural wingers in Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic.

Federico Chiesa could be a fantastic signing for the London club, as he is a youngster with tremendous potential and ability, much like Pulisic and Hudson-Odoi. Chiesa is a throwback to the English wingers of the past with his direct running, dribbling, and crosses into the box. The right-footed winger plays from the right side and likes to hug the touchline, beat his man, and then put in menacing crosses into central positions, something which will be welcomed by the likes of Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud.

He has been used on the left side as well, as an inverted winger, but his abilities are best utilised on the right-wing. He has also played as a striker or as a shadow striker behind the main striker at Fiorentina. The Italian international would add flair and goals from wide areas in an already young and exciting Chelsea side.

The Blues have to sign a winger in the summer transfer window, and with Fiorentina open to letting their players leave the club, Chelsea should pounce on this opportunity and snare the 22-year-old winger’s signature.
