Football has been severely disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, which is set to even spoil plans of clubs to spend in the summer transfer window. But, one player could be on the move despite the uncertain times that we are currently in. That player is Borussia Dortmund’s young hotshot Jadon Sancho, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United over the last few months.
The Red Devils, though, may have some competition in their quest to secure the signature of the young Englishman. According to Bild, Spanish heavyweights, Barcelona and Real Madrid could also enter the race to sign the 20-year-old winger.
Barca, who have yet to find a long-term replacement for Lionel Messi, could use their own teenage star Ansu Fati, in a transfer deal to bring Sancho to Nou Camp. Dortmund would reportedly be interested in bringing the 17-year-old in the summer if they lose Sancho.
There could potentially be an exchange plus cash deal which will see Jadon Sancho move to Spain, while Ansu Fati moves in the other direction to Germany.
Barcelona or Manchester United: Which is the better option for Jadon Sancho?
Jadon Sancho is regarded by many as one of the brightest talents in world football, and one who could perhaps compete with the likes of Kylian Mbappe for the title of the best player in the world post the Messi-Ronaldo era. The English international has the flair, technical ability and vision to play for any of the big teams in Europe, including Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Jadon Sancho, who was a part of the Manchester City academy, before leaving the club to join Borussia Dortmund due to a lack of opportunities, has never played senior football in England.
He would perhaps enjoy playing in a Barcelona team with the likes of Messi, Griezmann, de Jong and co. rather than a Manchester United side who are some way off finding a stable footing from where they can regularly challenge for trophies.
The high-pressing style in Spain could maybe hinder his ability to dribble with the ball, but a player of his class will be able to adapt quickly. Barca also have a better chance than the Red Devils to win the Champions League – despite them not being at their sparkling best – which would tilt it in favour of them if they are in a head-to-head fight with United to sign Sancho.
One reason why Sancho may want to return to England is to show his former club Manchester City, that they made a mistake in not giving him chances and prove his doubters wrong. But, if the Englishman assesses the two teams’ ability to win trophies, he should choose Barcelona or Real Madrid instead of Manchester United.
