Manchester United‘s Alexis Sanchez has reportedly been tracked by Premier League side West Ham United for a shock move in the summer. The Chilean is currently on loan at Italian club Inter Milan, but it seems that he doesn’t have a future at Inter, due to his astronomical wages, as per FC Inter News.
This has led to interest from other clubs, which includes West Ham, according to Daily Mail. Sanchez’s former club Colo-Colo in Chile are also interested, while Argentinian club River Plate are also pursuing the signature of the 31-year-old. Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer surprisingly said earlier this year that Sanchez will prove a lot of people wrong next season, but there’s a big doubt over his future at Old Trafford.
The Chilean still has two years remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford, and he earns a massive wage of £400,000 per week. Sanchez has had a poor season at Inter Milan scoring once and assisting three times in 15 games.
Alexis Sanchez: A good fit for West Ham?
The Hammers are currently 16th in the Premier League, level on points with 18th-placed Bournemouth, and are in an intense relegation battle. The main objective for manager David Moyes will be to keep them in the league and then plan their transfer acquisitions in the summer.
But, their interest in signing Alexis Sanchez is downright ludicrous. The Hammers have struggled for goals this season, and need a proven striker to be their talisman and score plenty of goals. But, it’s not wise to pin hopes on the Chilean, who has looked out of form over the last few years, even around good quality players at Manchester United and Inter Milan.
West Ham, meanwhile, do not possess the attacking quality and the invention in midfield that the Red Devils or the Italian club have. The bigger concern is Sanchez’s absurd wages. The former Arsenal attacker reportedly earns around £400,000 per week. The Hammers may not be able to afford him even if Sanchez decides to reduce his wages for 50%.
This move does not make sense one bit and it is not worth pursuing in the summer.
