premier league

The global pandemic has brought live football to a rude halt, with the majority of leagues in a fix as to their next step. The Premier League season has also been left in limbo and with no signs of it returning, the best we can do is revisit some of the classics of the 21st Century.

Here are 5 Premier League classics you should re-watch in the quarantine period:

Liverpool 4-4 Arsenal (2008-09)

Arsenal pop up quite a few times on this list as their carefree, attack-first attitude has resulted in numerous goal-filled games. One of those exciting games is the 4-4- draw between Liverpool and Arsenal in the 2008-09 season. The star of that match was Russian attacker Andriy Arshavin who scored four times for the Gunners. The end-to-end match saw late goals at Anfield, some incredible goals, which make for a great watch.

Some moments from the match

Earlier in the season, Arsenal drew 4-4 against Tottenham Hotspur as well, as they let in two late goals to allow Spurs to come back and level the game.

Manchester United 4-3 Manchester City (2009-10)

Manchester United were for a long time known as the comeback kings under Sir Alex Ferguson, and they were known to score late goals. In this match against Manchester City, they left it late – very, very late. The match was going in United’s favour as they were leading 3-2 before Craig Bellamy scored a superb goal in the dying minutes of the game.

But, Michael Owen – a former Anfield hero – scored with the last kick of the game, breaking Manchester City hearts.

Newcastle United 4-4 Arsenal (2010-11)

Arsenal were at it again, letting go of a lead in a game, but this time a massive 4-0 lead. The Gunners walked off the pitch at St. James’ Park at half-time with a 4-0 lead, thanks to a brace from Robin van Persie, and goals from Theo Walcott and Johann Djourou.

Following a red card to Abou Diaby, Newcastle mounted an incredible comeback, scoring their first goal in the 68th minute and the fourth and last goal – a scorcher off the foot of the late Cheick Tiote – in the 87th minute.

Manchester United 8-2 Arsenal (2011-12)

This time, Arsenal were well and truly beaten, against a rampant Manchester United side at Old Trafford. Going into half-time, the match seemed still open, with United going in with a 3-1 lead.

But, in the second half, the Red Devils were in fiery form, scoring five goals between the 64th minute and the final whistle in what turned out to be one of the darkest days in Arsene Wenger’s managerial career.

Manchester City 3-2 QPR (2011-12)

For Manchester City fans, the 3-2 win against QPR will probably be their most memorable moment over the last 50 years. City needed a win to pip arch-rivals Manchester United and win their first league title in 44 years. And, it seemed that they were going to drop the title, despite being at home against QPR, who were fighting relegation themselves in the last 90 minutes of the Premier League season.

93:20 REWIND

City were trailing 1-2 entering into added time before Edin Dzeko scored a towering header in the 91st minute. They still had hope. And up stepped Sergio Aguero, whose one swipe of the foot, made him a club legend, scoring the decisive goal in the 93rd minute, winning City the game and the title, on goal difference delivering a crushing blow on the red half of Manchester.

Its perfect time to make some plans for the future and its time to be happy with view.
