Manchester United could reportedly replace star with impressive Englishman: A wise move?

Manchester United are worried about the form of their No. 1 goalkeeper David de Gea and his position as the first-choice keeper could reportedly “come under scrutiny” in the summer.

The experienced goalkeeper has had a tough 18 months, having made several mistakes that have proven to be costly for the Red Devils.

As per Daily Mail, United could reassess the situation in the summer if de Gea makes more errors.

The report states that the club are set to have discussions with their young ‘keeper Dean Henderson this month, who is currently on loan at Sheffield United. The report further says that Henderson will be sent on loan for another year at the start of next season if de Gea stays at Old Trafford.

The young Englishman is keen on becoming the No. 1 at Manchester United, but that may be tough if de Gea is still at the club.

Henderson is currently in the second year of his two-year loan spell at Sheffield United. He helped them gain promotion to the Premier League last season, and has been one of the most impressive performers for the team this season.

A wise move to ditch David de Gea for Dean Henderson?

Henderson is one of the most promising young goalkeepers in the Premier League, and could be in line to be called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020.

The 22-year-old – who came through the United academy – has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League this season. Henderson has yet to make an appearance for the Manchester United senior team, and if he keeps up his good form, that could change in the next couple of seasons.

But, it seems unlikely that United will get rid of David de Gea anytime soon. The Red Devils gave the Spaniard a bumper contract last year, which will keep him at the club till 2023. Even if the club want to sell him, there may be few takers as he is on pretty big wages.

Henderson has played just one season in the Premier League, and doesn’t have enough experience to be Manchester United’s first-choice keeper. He should go out on loan for another season and be consistently good to convince Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the United hierarchy that he can compete with the likes of de Gea, or even no. 2 Sergio Romero.
