Burnley are keen on signing Kosovo international Vedat Muriqi from Turkish club Fenerbahce, as per reports.
The 25-year-old forward has had a solid season at Fenerbahce, after signing for them in the 2019 summer transfer window from Caykur Rizespor.
As per Calciomercato, Muriqi is a target for Burnley, who will have to compete with Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Manchester United for his signature.
There is interest from outside the Premier League as well with Italian side Lazio also keen. The report states that Burnley have offered the Turkish club €25 million for him, but Fenerbahce want €35 million.
Muriqi’s current contract with the Turkish club expires only in 2023 as he signed a four-year deal with the club not so long ago.
In his first season with the club, he has scored 13 goals made 5 assists so far in 22 appearances. Muriqi has also scored 8 goals in 23 games for the Kosovo national team.
Vedat Muriqi to Burnley – A smashing move by Dyche
Vedat Muriqi seems to be the kind of player who is readymade for Burnley’s style of play. Tall, quick, and a player who is a good team player, Muriqi’s arrival would strengthen Sean Dyche’s squad.
The Kosovo international stands in at 6’4″ and is phenomenal in the air, having won an average of 4.7 aerial balls per game in the Turkish league this season.
The left-footed striker can hold up the ball well to bring teammates into play and link-up play well, playing lay-offs and one-twos with midfielders and wingers.
Muriqi is a player with tremendous work-rate and plays with his heart on his sleeve, which fits in well with the Burnley ethos under Dyche. He can also play clever passes into the path of teammates, and likes to drop deep to take part in the team’s build-up play.
Dyche currently has four first-team strikers at his disposal – Chris Wood, Ashley Barnes, Jay Rodriguez, and Matej Vydra. The 4-4-2 set-up that Burnley play requires them to have four strikers in the squad. Vydra hasn’t opened his account for the season and he could leave in the summer to make way for another forward.
Muriqi seems like the perfect striker for Burnley and Dyche should make a move for him in the summer.
