Tottenham Hotspur could make a summer move for Serie A ace: A good option for Jose?

Cengiz Under tottenham transfer news

Tottenham Hotspur will look to make a move for AS Roma winger Cengiz Under should they make it to next season’s Champions League group stages, it has been claimed.

Spurs have had a mixed few months under Jose Mourinho, but are still in with a chance of finishing inside the top four as they are just four points behind Chelsea who occupy the fourth spot in the Premier League table.

Despite spending good money in the summer, Spurs struggled under former manager Mauricio Pochettino, but have picked up their form to some extent under Mourinho.

Having added Steven Bergwijn in January, Spurs could move in for Under in the summer depending on where they finish in the Premier League, as per Daily Mail.

The Turkish attacker has been with Roma since 2017 after moving to Italy from Basaksehir, and has made a combined total of 82 appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals in the process.

Would Cengiz Under be a good option for Mourinho?

After an initial burst, Under hasn’t been able to kick on at Roma and his form can be deemed as inconsistent. However, he did replace Mohamed Salah, and those are big shoes to fill considering the Egyptian was Roma’s top scorer in the season before he left for Liverpool.

Tottenham currently have an array of options to use even with the injury to Harry Kane, and Under’s arrival would make their squad a lot stronger. However, the Turk wouldn’t be guaranteed playing time.

Bergwijn has started well and his integration process has well and truly begun. When Kane returns, he will occupy a place in the attack, while Heung-Min Son is pretty much un-droppable owing to his quality and work-rate.

Add Lucas Moura, Dele Alli and Erik Lamela to the aforementioned to players to compete with, and Under will not find it easy to make appearances week in week out.

The 22-year old would add a bit of spark to Spurs’ attack which has looked laboured at times, and that’s a good prospect to consider.

Under has plenty of pace to burn, and is a tricky player on the ball, someone who defenders will find hard to deal with because of his burst of speed and dribbling. His end product can improve, but that’s something he will learn with time as he is still pretty young.

Should Spurs manage to qualify for the Champions League, they will have a bigger budget, so they should move in for Under as he will only improve the squad.
