Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Barcelona right-back Nelson Semedo in the January transfer window, according to reports.
Semedo will reportedly be allowed to leave in the winter transfer window as the Catalan giants want to sign Emerson from Real Betis.
As per Mirror Football, Spurs are going to allow Kyle Walker-Peters to leave the North London club on loan, with Crystal Palace reportedly interested in signing him.
Spurs are reportedly keen on signing Norwich City’s Max Aarons, who is also a target for RB Leipzig and Barcelona.
Semedo joined Barca from Benfica in 2017, becoming a key player for the La Liga side. The Portuguese international has made over 100 appearances for Barcelona, scoring once and managing 8 assists.
The 26-year-old’s current deal with Barcelona expires in 2022, having signed a five-year deal when he joined in 2017.
Semedo has also become a key player for the Portuguese national team, playing 5 times for the national team in 2019.
Nelson Semedo – A good option for Mourinho?
Tottenham need to make a few additions in the next few transfer windows, and one position that they need strengthening is right-back.
Spurs sold Kieran Trippier in the summer, which left them with Serge Aurier, who hasn’t been consistent, and youngster Kyle Walker-Peters, who is still inexperienced.
Semedo would be a very good signing for Spurs, having had a lot of experience of playing in Europe and at one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
The Portuguese right-back is a player who likes to get forward at every opportunity and is a strong dribbler. Semedo is a defender who can play at right-back or left-back and his versatility will be a bonus.
He is a player that can build from the back with his confident and accurate passing as well. He is good defensively, averaging 1.6 tackles in the league this season for Barcelona. His crossing is also strong, something Spurs have missed after Tripper’s departure.
Semedo could be suited to play in a four-man defence or as a wing-back as well, which will give Mourinho more options at the back.
Spurs need a strong squad to compete with the best and take them back to competing for top 4 places, and they will need signings like Semedo to help them rise back once again.
