Champions League Winner On Newcastle United’s Radar: A Shrewd Addition To The Team

Newcastle United could make a move to buy Champions League winner Adam Lallana from Liverpool, as per reports.

The veteran English midfielder has had very few opportunities at Merseyside over the last two years, and will most likely leave the club.

As per The Telegraph, the Magpies are interested in signing the former Southampton player, who is out of contract at the end of the season. But the report states that Lallana will decide on his future only at the end of the current season, which means that a possible switch in January is unlikely.

Lallana has made over 170 appearances for Liverpool since moving to the club in 2014 and has scored 22 goals and made 22 assists.

The Englishman has not had too many opportunities in the last two seasons due to frequent injuries and competition for places in the squad.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has quality options in attack, and has preferred the trio of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, and Georginio Wijnaldum in midfield.

Adam Lallana – A good midfield option for Newcastle United

Newcastle United have done well to recover from a big wobble at the start of the season under manager Steve Bruce. The Magpies, who were touted to be in a relegation dogfight, have steered clear of the bottom three, and are currently in mid-table.

The addition of a player of the calibre of Adam Lallana will make them a lot stronger, and also offer more creativity in the final third.

Bruce’s tactics this season has seen Newcastle United set-up very defensively, using the counter-attack and set pieces to score goals. This is mostly due to the lack of quality going forward, especially in midfield, which has players with good work ethic.

Lallana, with his nimble dribbling, clever passes, and movement could add a new dimension to the Newcastle United attack, and would be a big upgrade on the current options that they have in midfield.

The likes of Miguel Almiron and Jonjo Shelvey have been inconsistent, while the Magpies also have inexperienced, young players in their midfield. Lallana’s hard-working attitude also means that he will contribute off the ball for the Magpies.

Signing Lallana on a free transfer would be a big coup for Steve Bruce, which would also free up funds for the Magpies to sign players in other areas of the pitch, especially in attack, as they have struggled for goals.
