Real Madrid are tracking highly-rated midfield Houssem Aouar, who currently plays for French side Lyon. The 21-year-old has impressed over the last two seasons for Lyon, which has linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
As per Don Balon, the Spanish giants could make a bid for the France U21 international, whose contract with his current club expires only in 2023. The report also claims that Aouar might end up costing the club around €80 million.
A host of clubs are keen on signing Aouar, which includes the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Napoli, Juventus, and Manchester City.
Since making his debut back in 2017, Aouar has gone on to make 115 appearances for the club, scoring 18 and making 21 assists. The young Frenchman has also played 16 times for the French U21 side, scoring 4 times, but has yet to make his senior debut.
Is Houssem Aouar a good midfield option for Real Madrid?
Aouar is one of the most sought-after young midfielders in world football, thanks to his recent performances for Lyon. The 21-year-old is a central midfielder who can also play as a defensive midfielder or on the left or right, and even further as an attacking midfielder.
He is technically gifted, capable of drifting past opposition defenders, and leaving them in a heap. The Frenchman has the vision to dribble past players as well as pick a clever pass.
While he is not one that can boss and bully opposition midfielders, he has the vision to move the ball quickly. The midfielder has averaged 2.5 dribbles per game in Ligue 1 this season, while averaging 85.8% in pass completion.
Aouar is a player that uses the ball well and has the ability to also move forward with the ball at his feet. He could be the eventual replacement for Luka Modric in the Madrid midfield, as the experienced Croatian is coming to the end of his time at the Spanish club.
He would work well alongside a defensive stalwart like Casemiro and could be one of the many exciting talents in Madrid’s attack, alongside the likes of Rodrygo and Vinicius.
Madrid should make a move for him and secure his services quickly before another top European club make him sign on the dotted line.
