Manchester United registered a fantastic 4-1 win against Newcastle United on Boxing Day, despite going a goal down early in the game. The Red Devils will next face Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday, and will hope to close the gap on the top four.
The last time these two sides met in the league, the game ended in a 2-2 draw last season. United are 8th in the league, four points behind Chelsea who are fourth in the league.
Manchester United Team News
Scott McTominay is the latest player to suffer an injury and has been ruled out of the game. He joins the likes of Marcos Rojo, Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe, and Timothy Fosu-Mensah on the sidelines.
Let’s take a look at the possible Manchester United lineup for the game against Burnley:
Predicted Manchester United Lineup vs Burnley
Goalkeeper
David de Gea should continue in goal for the game against Burnley, and he will have to deal with Burnley’s set-piece threat.
Defence
We could see manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continue with the same back four of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, and Luke Shaw. Maguire was in great form at the back against Newcastle United, while Wan-Bissaka bombed forward more than usual, even registering an assist.
Ashley Young is an option for Manchester United on either full-back position, while Diogo Dalot could come into the squad.
Midfield
McTominay’s injury means that Paul Pogba could get his first start since September 2019. Solskjaer revealed that he will gradually bring the Frenchman back in the side, but the loss of McTominay to injury could change his mind.
He will start alongside Fred, who had a good game against the Magpies. Andreas Pereira could retain his role in the middle of the park, while Jesse Lingard is an option as well.
Attack
Manchester United’s attacking trio from the last game was Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Mason Greenwood, and all three of them got on the scoresheet.
We could see the trio continue for the game against Burnley, while Daniel James is an option on the right side in place of Greenwood, as well. James was an unused substitute for the game against Newcastle United.
