Manchester United are keen on signing Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek, who has had an impressive couple of years with the Dutch side.
The 22-year-old was one of the stars who helped Ajax reach the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.
As per Daily Mail, the Red Devils are resigned to losing their star midfielder Paul Pogba, who hasn’t featured prominently this season due to injuries. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. have shortlisted van de Beek as one of the midfielders who could replace the World Cup-winning Frenchman.
The Dutchman and Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul are two midfielders that could join the club in the summer.
Van de Beek has come through the academy at Ajax, making his first-team debut in 2015. The 22-year-old has made over 160 appearances for the Dutch side, scoring 38 times and making 29 assists. He has also played for Dutch national team, making 9 appearances since debuting in 2017.
Is van de Beek the player Manchester United need?
Manchester United need at least one – if not two – central midfielders in the next two transfer windows. Solskjaer has yet to replace midfielders that left the club in the last few transfer windows.
With the likes of Nemanja Matic not good enough for the Manchester United team, and with only Fred, Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba the options for Solskjaer, the Red Devils need to make a few additions quickly.
Van de Beek could be a very good addition to the United midfield as he is someone who can move the ball around quickly, and move into attacking areas.
A central midfielder, the Ajax midfielder can play as a defensive midfielder or an attacking midfielder as well. Van de Beek is a good link player, be it passing the ball or moving ahead with the ball.
The Dutchman could be the impetus from midfield that United have been desperately in need of, and is a player that will only get better with age.
He could play well in a midfield three or midfield two, and would add quality and depth to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United squad. United have to move quickly to sign him as Spanish giants Real Madrid have been long-time admirers of the Dutchman and they could make a move for him.
