Time For A Change At Everton: 3 Managers Who Can Replace Marco Silva

premier league

Everton have had a disastrous first half of the 2019-20 Premier League season, as the Merseyside club are just 4 points above the relegation zone, following 7 losses in 13 games.

Manager Marco Silva is on thin ice and he could get the sack soon as the Toffees board have invested heavily in signing new players, but are languishing near the bottom of the table.

Silva, who joined Everton from Watford in 2018, guided them to an 8th place finish in his first season. But, this season has been woeful, despite spending over €100 million in the summer transfer window.

Who could replace Silva at Everton? Let’s take a look at 3 managers who can replace Marco Silva at Everton:

3 managers who can replace Marco Silva at Everton

Chris Hughton

Former Brighton and Norwich City manager Chris Hughton is perhaps one of the most underrated managers in the Premier League over the last decade or so. The former Irish international steadied the ship and got favourable results for the teams he managed.

Hughton last managed Brighton, where he took them up to the Premier League and kept them there. He was fired when Brighton finished 17th in the league in the 2018-19 season, replaced by Graham Potter.

Hughton brings discipline to teams and has experience of managing big teams like Newcastle United. He could be a sensible option to have until the end of the season.

Mikel Arteta

If Everton are looking for a manager for the long-term, they could probably train their sights towards former Everton player and fan favourite Mikel Arteta. Arteta is currently the assistant manager at Manchester City, working under Pep Guardiola.

The Spaniard, who spent 8 good seasons at Everton as a player, could take up his first job as a manager in the Premier League after being linked with managerial jobs at his two former clubs – Everton and Arsenal.

While no one knows how good he will be as a manager, Guardiola recently said that Arteta already “behaves like a manager” and that he will be a manager soon.

David Moyes

One manager who has had past experience of managing Everton and who managed Arteta is David Moyes.

Moyes left Goodison Park for Manchester United in 2013 after managing the Toffees for 11 years. He took the Toffees from a side battling relegation to Champions League spots, and made them a difficult team to beat.

But it didn’t quite work out for Moyes at Manchester United, Real Sociedad or Sunderland. Moyes was appointed as West Ham United manager following the sacking of Slaven Bilic, and he helped them stay up in the Premier League.

He may have a similar tenure if he’s appointed Everton manager for the second time and will be tasked with at least finishing in the top half of the table with the squad the Toffees have.
