Tottenham Hotspur Keeping Tabs On Serie A Midfield Ace: Will A Move Make Sense?

After a mediocre start to the season, Tottenham Hotspur might be forced to dip into the transfer market in January. They are looking at players who can make an immediate impact at the club and one player they are now linked with is Juventus outcast Adrien Rabiot.

A story from Calciomercato claims that the French international has failed to impress in his three league starts this season and could be off-loaded in January, especially given his high wages.

Spurs are reportedly monitoring this situation and are also willing to use Christian Eriksen as a part of the deal to land Adrien Rabiot in the winter transfer window. But will this be the right move for Spurs?

What Will Adrien Rabiot Bring To Tottenham?

After seven long seasons with PSG, where he made 150 league appearances, Rabiot was frustrated with lack of playing time and decided to move to Juventus earlier this year.

However, the plethora of options at Maurizio Sarri’s disposal has meant that Rabiot has not been given enough time to settle into life in Italy.

The 24-year old has seen just 12 minutes of Champions League action while making just three Serie A starts. His last game against Bologna saw him put in an average performance, which has led to rumours of an exit in January.

A gifted technician, who loves to sit back and dictate play, Rabiot reads the game well and is usually effective outside both boxes.

He is an excellent passer and can create chances even from a deeper midfield role. But he is at his best recycling possession and keeping the pressure on the opponents.

His understanding of the game allows him to make crucial tackles in front of his backline while his vision allows him to set his team up on counter-attacks, a job he is tailor-made for.

However, he is not the energetic presence Sarri wants in the middle of the park for his side, which could be an issue for Spurs as well.

Eriksen For Rabiot- Makes sense?

With Eriksen’s deal ending next summer, Spurs will have to pay a hefty fee for Adrien Rabiot along with losing Eriksen, which is a deal that makes little sense for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

The Danish international is one of the most creative players in the squad under Pochettino and Rabiot hardly replaces these qualities in the squad.

The Juventus midfielder does help provide an extra dimension to the Spurs midfield, but there is very little reason for the club to include Eriksen in the deal.

Rabiot has over three years left on his deal with The Old Lady and will be an expensive option so in more ways than one, this is a move Spurs can avoid in January.
