Matchweek 8 of the 2019-20 Premier League season was yet another eventful round with Liverpool further extending their lead at the top following Manchester City’s loss, while Aston Villa and Newcastle United got vital wins to move away from the relegation zone.

There were a few star performances by attackers this past weekend, but three of them stood out – all of whom were not from the “big boys” of the Premier League.

Let’s take a look at top 3 attackers from matchweek 8 of the Premier League:

Top 3 Attackers From Premier League Matchweek 8

#3 Aaron Connolly (Brighton)

In his very first start in the Premier League, Brighton’s 19-year-old striker Aaron Connolly scored a brace against Tottenham on Saturday.

The Irish striker helped the Seagulls to a 3-0 win at home against Spurs, scoring in the 32nd and 65th minute, taking his tally to three goals this season, having scored in the League Cup as well.

His first goal involved a clever flick into the goal from a cross, which Paulo Gazzaniga parried away, but Connolly was quick to capitalise on the rebound and put it in the back of the net.

The third Brighton goal and Connolly’s second goal of the day came when the Irishman drove at the Spurs defence after a ball over the top, and placed it into the bottom right corner.

#2 Wesley (Aston Villa)

Aston Villa got a vital win away from home at Norwich City, defeating the Canaries 5-1, thanks to goals from Jack Grealish, Conor Hourihane, Douglas Luiz, and a first-half brace from striker Wesley.

The Brazilian striker, who had scored twice in seven games ahead of the Norwich City game, desperately needed a few goals to up his confidence.

The 22-year-old’s first goal of the game came in the 14th minute when he controlled a cross by El Ghazi well with his chest, brushing off Norwich City defenders, and then slotted it into the bottom corner.

The first was a classic goal by a No. 9, showing great strength and control. The second was a great poacher’s goal, drifting into the near post area to slot it easily past the Norwich keeper.

Wesley was a handful for the Norwich defenders throughout the game, being physically strong and pressing the opposition well.

#1 Adama Traore (Wolves)

The story of matchweek 8 of the Premier League was Manchester City’s shock loss to Wolves at the Etihad Stadium. The reigning champions were humbled by Nuno Espírito Santo’s men, thanks to a phenomenal brace by former Barcelona player Adama Traore.

Traore caused plenty of problems from the right side, scoring two late second half goals to seal all three points for Wolves.

Wolves’ attackers had a few gilt-edged chances in the first half, but Traore made no mistake when the opportunities fell his way. His first goal came after Raúl Jiménez skipped past a few defenders and squared it to Traore, who passed into the back of the net and past Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson.

His second, in injury time, was on the counter-attack as he exploited the high backline that Manchester City played late in the game, slotting it easily around Ederson’s outstretched arms.
