Best Tottenham Hotspur XI So Far This Season: Alderweireld Misses Out

christian eriksen

In what has been the worst start to a season under Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham Hotspur are currently languishing in the ninth place, eight games into the Premier League campaign. They have been knocked out of the League Cup and humiliated in the Champions League in a matter of weeks and are currently in search of some inspiration.

Pochettino’s team selection needs to be questioned, but the performance of star players, who have been consistently below par needs to be scrutinized. But who all have disappointed the least?

Here is Tottenham Hotspur’s Best XI so far this Premier League season

(4-2-2-2)

Defence

Out injured for the foreseeable future, Hugo Lloris has kept just one clean sheet so far this season but makes this team purely on the basis of minutes played.

Jan Vertonghen has not had the best of times in the Champions League but he has been pretty decent at the back in the league and should make this XI. Toby Alderweireld has not been at his best and Davinson Sanchez, who has made four league starts so far this season, will push him out of this XI.

Serge Aurier has been inconsistent at right-back and young Kyle Walker-Peters, though not as effective in attack, has been solid at the back and deserves a place in this side.

Ben Davies has seen just 106 minutes of league action, leaving Danny Rose with little competition for a place at left-back.

Midfield

Tanguy Ndombele has been Spurs’ best midfielder so far this season. He has two goals and an assist to add to 2.8 tackles and 0.7 chances created per game. He has been a consistent presence in the middle of the park for Pochettino alongside young Harry Winks who edges Moussa Sissoko to this XI.

Winks has been effective outside both boxes and adds some balance to this Tottenham Hotspur side.

Attack

With Dele Alli struggling to make an impact, Erik Lamela has been seen plenty of action this season. He has two goals and an assist this season and will start in an advanced midfield role.

Pochettino has used Christian Eriksen in a free-flowing role just outside the box in attack. The Dane has just a goal and an assist but remains the best playmaker at the club.

Harry Kane has five goals to his name so far this season. He deserves a place in this side along with Heung-Min Son who has two goals and two assists to add to 1.8 key passes per game.
