Tottenham Hotspur Reportedly Planning A Swap Deal For Argentine Ace: Wise Move By The Club?

Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing Paulo Dybala in the summer transfer window, and had negotiations with Juventus over the signing of the Argentine ace. Despite failing in the summer transfer window, Spurs are keen on signing him in the January transfer window.

A report by Tuttosport claims that the English club could offer Christian Eriksen for Dybala in January in a swap deal.

Eriksen will have just six months remaining on his current Spurs deal in January, and it is unlikely that he will sign a new contract after revealing earlier that he wants to quit Spurs for a new challenge.

Dybala, too, does not seem to have a future at Juventus as the Italian giants have several attacking players, and manager Maurizio Sarri doesn’t seem keen on including Dybala in his plans.

Spurs, as well as Manchester United, were interested in signing Dybala in the summer, but neither club could strike a deal to bring the 25-year-old to England.

The Argentinian has started one game and made three substitute appearances for Juventus in Serie A this season, scoring once and making one goal.

Eriksen for Dybala: A wise move by Tottenham?

A few seasons ago, Dybala was a player touted to become the next Lionel Messi, but poor form in the 2018-19 season has resulted in him losing his place in the side.

The Argentine attacker has several qualities that would make Spurs a very good side, one that could challenge Liverpool and Manchester City for the title.

The versatile attacker can play in several roles on the pitch, and is a player who can score and create goals with his fantastic technique, vision, and passing.

Eriksen, meanwhile, has been one of Spurs’ most consistent players over the last few seasons. The Dane’s desire to leave Spurs is a big blow to Mauricio Pochettino as he is a player who can create chances and control the tempo of the game.

But, if Eriksen is going to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season, it would make sense for Spurs to let go of him in January and bring a replacement.

Dybala can be the man that could take on Eriksen’s role in the Spurs team and help the English club close the gap with Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

Though Dybala is a bit different compared to Eriksen, his creativity on the right could finally help Spurs shed their ‘nearly’ tag as the Argentine would form a deadly attack alongside Heung-min Son and Harry Kane, thus allowing Dele Alli to be shifted to a deeper role and replace Eriksen.
