Longstaff To Return: Predicted 5-4-1 Newcastle United Lineup vs Brighton

Newcastle United lost their third match of the 2019-20 season against league leaders Liverpool last weekend, despite taking an early lead through summer signing Jetro Willems. The Magpies will next host Brighton at home this Saturday, and will look to get out of the relegation zone.

Steve Bruce’s side have won one, drawn one, and lost three games so far in the Premier League so far, and need to bring more consistency into their game to climb up the table.

Let’s take a look at the possible Newcastle United lineup for the game against Brighton:

Goalkeeper

Martin Dubravka will start in goal for Newcastle United against Brighton.

Defence

Center back Fabian Schar was substituted in the game against Liverpool due to an injury, but the injury is not a serious one and he should be available for Saturday’s game. He will play in the backline alongside captain Jamaal Lascelles and Paul Dummett as part of the back three.

Last week’s goalscorer, Jetro Willems, will continue to play as the left wing-back, while we could see a change at right wing-back with Javier Manquillo replacing Emil Krafth to add more offensive output.

Midfield

Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey started in the loss against Liverpool and the two could continue if Sean Longstaff is ruled out of the game through injury. Longstaff could most likely be fit, which means that he could replace Shelvey in central midfield.

Christian Atsu and Miguel Almiron started on the right-wing and left-wing, respectively, against Liverpool, and we could see the two retain their place. Atsu has registered two assists in the three appearances he has made this season, but Almiron is yet to step up to the plate and make an impact in the attacking third.

Attack

Summer signing Joelinton hasn’t quite set the Premier League alight and has scored just one goal so far in the five games that he has featured in. The Brazilian will need to do more in attack and get a few goals and link up well with the likes of Atsu and Almiron.

Andy Carroll could return to the Newcastle United squad this weekend and could be on the bench at St. James’ Park. Carroll signed with Newcastle United on a free after his West Ham contract expired.
