3 Barcelona Superstars To Watch Out For In The International Break | Opinion

antoine griezmann

Barcelona have made a poor start to the 2019-20 La Liga season, winning one game, drawing one, and losing one.

The Catalan giants could use the international break to get back in the groove and prepare themselves better for the game against Valencia post the international break.

But, a few of Barcelona players will be away from their club during the international break. Let’s take a look at 3 Barcelona players to watch out for in the international break:

Jordi Alba – Spain

Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba has started all three La Liga games this season and continues to be the Catalan team’s first-choice left-back.

The 30-year-old is a part of Spain’s squad for the two Euro 2020 qualifier matches against Romania and Faroe Islands. Valencia’s José Luis Gayà is another option for manager Robert Moreno. In the last two games for Spain, Gaya and Alba have played one game each.

Spain are top of Group F with four wins from four games, while their opponents Romania, are second with 7 points.

Sergio Busquets is the other Barcelona player in the Spanish squad.

Frenkie de Jong – Netherlands

New Barcelona signing Frenkie de Jong has started all three of the La Liga games for Barcelona in the 2019-20 season.

The Dutch midfielder will now be a part of his national side’s two Euro 2020 qualifying games, first against Germany and the second one against Estonia. The Dutch are third in Group C of the Euro 2020 qualifying stage, with one win and one loss which came against Germany at home.

Northern Ireland are top of Group C with four wins from four games, followed by Germany, who have three wins from three games. De Jong will be a key player for the Dutch team in the two qualifying games, with his passing of great importance.

Antoine Griezmann – France

Another new Barcelona signing Antoine Griezmann, will be in action for France who will also play two Euro 2020 qualifying matches. The World Champions have two easy fixtures in this international break, facing Albania and Andorra, both of which will be played at home.

The French are top of Group H with three wins from three matches, and tied on points with Turkey and Iceland. Griezmann will most likely play in the hole behind the main striker, which could be Wissam Ben Yedder.

Griezmann’s Barcelona teammates, Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti, are also part of the French squad with Umtiti replacing Aymeric Laporte, who suffered an injury.
