Impressive Shackleton To Start: Predicted Leeds United Lineup vs Wigan

leeds united lineup

Leeds United, after their comfortable 3-0 win over Salford City in the first round of the League Cup, play Wigan Athletic in the third match of the 2019-20 Championship season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men dominated the first two games of their Championship season, but could only get a draw in the last match against Nottingham Forest.

They face a Wigan side that lost their last match, a League Cup tie, as well as their last Championship game.

Let’s take a look at the possible Leeds United lineup for the game against Wigan Athletic on Saturday:

Predicted Leeds United Lineup vs Wigan

Goalkeeper

Spanish goalkeeper Kiko Casilla will continue in goal against Wigan Athletic after marshalling the defence and securing a clean sheet against Salford in the League Cup.

Defence

On-loan central defender Ben White had yet another good game in midweek, and he is expected to start in defence alongside captain Liam Cooper.

Stuart Dallas and Barry Douglas, who were both rested for the game against Salford City, will return at right-back and left-back, respectively.

Midfield

The ever-dependable Kalvin Phillips will start in the base of midfield for Leeds on Saturday.

19-year-old central midfielder Jamie Shackleton put on an impressive performance against Salford City in midweek, and he could possibly replace Adam Forshaw in midfield, while Mateusz Klich, who scored a goal against Salford, will play alongside him in the heart of midfield.

Adam Forshaw is also an option in midfield.

Attack

Pablo Hernandez was in fine form in the first two games of the Championship, and he could be restored to the team against Wigan Athletic, replacing Helder Costa in the team.

On the left, Jack Harrison could replace Jack Clarke; the latter had a good game against Salford but Bielsa may persist with Harrison, who has already got on the scoresheet this season.

The Leeds manager’s toughest decision would be to drop loan signing Eddie Nketiah for Patrick Bamford. Nketiah scored a goal against Salford City and put on an impressive display in his first game for the club.

I feel Bielsa will start with Bamford and maybe bring on Nketiah in the second half if the side are trailing or find it tough to break the Wigan defence.
